WCET CONGRESS 2012

Start planning now to travel to Australia!!!

Adelaide, South Australia invites you to the WCET Congress 19th to 23rd April 2012.

The venue will be the Adelaide Convention Centre on the banks of the River Torrens. The multi award winning Adelaide Convention Centre enjoys a global reputation for excellence and is consistently ranked amongst the world’s top 10 convention centers. It is situated 15 minutes from the airport in the central business district.

Adelaide is a diverse, well - planned multicultural city surrounded by parklands.

Quality accommodation is adjacent to the Adelaide Convention Centre with the Museum, Library, Art Gallery, Botanic Gardens all within walking distance on North Terrace. Shopping, restaurants, cafes and bars are also within easy walking distance from the congress venue. The Mediterranean climate in the autumn month of April averages 22°C. Very pleasant indeed!!

The Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nurses Inc. (AASTN) promises to stage a very professional, enjoyable and memorable World Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

Already an outline for the program has been developed with plans for concurrent sessions in ostomy, wound and continence with levels from beginner through to expert. A paediatric component will feature throughout the program which perhaps will encourage the formation of a WCET paediatric subgroup. Another highlight will be the introduction of vertical streams in the Saturday program where national specialist nursing groups from dermatology, gastro-enterology, urology and vascular nursing will be invited to participate for the day. Stoma nurses have involvement in all these specialties and we believe these subjects will be of interest to delegates, expand our profile to colleagues beyond our specialty and boost our day registration. A segment on bariatric nursing is planned. A poster breakfast will be held when delegates can meet and discuss with poster authors. We will also adopt ideas from the WOCN/WCET conference and have dedicated times for industry with the trade area being closed during lecture session times.

Adelaide and South Australia offer a wide range of experiences, including the famous wine regions, miles of coastline with lovely beaches and of course kangaroos, koalas and other interesting wildlife.

Make sure you read the “Countdown to Congress 2012” in each edition of the WCET Journal. Elizabeth English, Congress Liaison, will write about a different aspect of Adelaide, South Australia and Australia and provide some short holiday destination ideas recommended by the congress organizing committee.
